Unfortunately the brand new batteries on my camera decided to pack in just after this shot. I must remember to carry spares.

Would have been nice to get a shot of the woman in the birthday suit ;-)

This float seemed to understand the atmosphere.

These young ladies from Sturry were less well prepared, and began to flinch under an unceasing hail of coins. Later in the parade a float lined with infant school children made the same mistake – Herne Bay is a dangerous place to go in fancy dress.

As did the Misses Whitstable, protected like the Pope as the people of Herne Bay began to hurl handfulls of coins at their float.

Behind their veils of garden netting the young ladies felt safe amidst the hostility of their neighbouring town.

I noticed that the beauties of Sheppey were surrounded by a mesh. I then noticed the large tray of coins our hosts had prepared.

The people of Herne Bay were arming themselves, and the fair ladies of Sheppey knew it.
